Facelift & Facial Implants

Some of the most visible signs of aging first appear on the face. Although the changes appear gradually, there may come a day when you look at yourself in the mirror and decide that the face you see doesn't reflect the way you feel about yourself. If you'd like to look as good as you feel, a facelift can help. Also known as rhytidectomy, a facelift smoothes the loose skin on your face and neck, tightens underlying tissues, and removes excess fat. As a result, your face will appear firmer and fresher.

The best way to get complete answers to specific questions that relate to your individual needs is to have a personal consultation with Dr. Rumley.

The goal of forehead surgery is repositioning of the forehead skin and eyebrows as well as removal of the frown lines that usually are obvious between the eyebrows. Very often an elevation of the outer portion of the eyebrows will also improve the appearance of upper eyelid drooping. You will no longer have an angry or tired look associated with your forehead and eyebrows.

During your consultation, Dr. Rumley will examine your facial structure, the condition of your skin, and your hairline.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid surgery, technically called blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Specifically, eyelid surgery can treat loose or sagging skin that creates folds or hides the natural contour of the upper eyelid, excess skin that hangs down from the upper eyelid, bags under the eyes, droopiness of the lower eyelids, and excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid.

Blepharoplasty is an operation that can "freshen up" the eyes as well as an aging face. Blepharoplasty generally yields a substantial and longer lasting improvement with less cost, risk, pain, and inconvenience.

Rhinoplasty is surgery which can reshape or resize the nose. The appearance of one's nose is a matter of personal preference. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose, rhinoplasty can change the appearance to your satisfaction.

Rhinoplasty can remove the hump on the bridge of the nose, reshape the tip, narrow the nostils, reduce or increase the overall size of the nose, increase the angle between the nose and the upper lip, and many other options.

During your consultation, Dr. Rumley will examine the internal and external parts of your nose. You may bring pictures of noses that you like to the consultation, but your anatomy may not make it possible to achieve these results. You will have pictures taken and a digital imaging program will allow you to see what your nose will look like. The final result after surgery is often better than the altered images. It is very important to make your desires known to Dr. Rumley during your consultation.

Ear Pinning (Otoplasty)

Otoplasty is usually done to set prominent ears back close to the head or to reduce the size of large ears. For the most part, the operation is done on children, but ear surgery on adults is possible too.

Botox is a natural, purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Very low doses of Botox Cosmetic are administered via a few tiny injections directly into the overactive muscles that cause lines to form. Botox Cosmetic works by blocking the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles. The effects of Botox Cosmetic are usually confined to the injected region; it does not travel throughout the body.

Dr. Rumley will determine exactly where to administer several tiny injections to achieve the best results. No anesthesia is required. We will numb your forehead with a cold pack prior to injecting. The entire procedure takes approximately ten minutes. Discomfort is minimal and brief. You may develop slight temporary bruising at the injection site, which can be covered up with makeup. You may resume normal activity immediately.

Injectable fillers are substances that enhance the fullness of soft tissues, primarily in the face. Some fillers are based on natural substances derived from the human body, others are synthetic forms of these substances, and some may contain synthetic biocompatible compounds. The differences among facial fillers are not only in their composition, but also in their preferred application and the duration of their results.

Radiesse is a form of hydroxylapatite, a mineral-like compound found naturally in human bones, suspended in a gel-like formulation. It is recommended to fill deeper creases such as nasolbial folds, marionette lines, and frown lines, as well as to enhance fullness of the cheeks and other facial contours. Radiesse lasts 18 months to 2 years.
